Li Jialu, the director of the Commerce Department's Department of Commerce Industry Development, introduced that plastic pollution control is an important aspect of promoting green consumption, and it is related to the improvement of the ecological environment and the healthy life of the people. In recent years, the Commerce Department has focused on key links such as reducing the use of disposable plastic products in the business sector, promoting the promotion of alternative products, and governing key industries, and has taken multiple measures to promote plastic pollution control work, achieving positive results. Firstly, it has promoted the reduction of the use of disposable plastic products. The Commerce Department, in collaboration with the National Development and Reform Commission, issued the "Administrative Measures for the Use of Disposable Plastic Products by Commerce Sector Operators", strengthening the requirements for market entities to comply with the relevant national regulations on the prohibition and restriction of plastic use. Merchandise retail operators should legally implement the "Administrative Measures for the Paid Use of Plastic Shopping Bags in Retail Commercial Places", e-commerce platforms should preferentially adopt reusable and recyclable packaging materials, and promote the direct delivery of e-commerce parcels and courier turnover boxes. From multiple aspects, it has advocated a simple, moderate, green, and low-carbon lifestyle. At the same time, a reporting system for disposable plastic products has been established, and regular organizations have been held to require all regions to report the usage and recycling of plastic products. According to the monitoring data of the Commerce Department, the usage of environmentally friendly substitutes increased by 26.31% in the first half of 2025 compared with the previous period. At the same time, the promotion of bamboo substitution for plastic has been carried out, and the green consumption market for bamboo products has been actively cultivated. Promote green catering, promote the reduction of the use of disposable plastic products and packaging materials in the catering sector, and clearly define the relevant requirements for the prohibition and restriction of plastic use in the catering industry. Li Jialu said that in the future, the Commerce Department will continue to implement the relevant national deployment for plastic pollution control, continuously strengthen the management of the reporting of disposable plastic products, increase the promotion of green alternative products such as degradable and bamboo substitution products, deepen the reduction of plastic use in key fields such as catering, improve the long-term governance mechanism, and promote the plastic pollution control work in the business sector to go deeper and more solid, contributing to promoting green consumption and building a beautiful China.
