On November 24th, Emirates Biotech officially launched its PLA (Poly Lactic Acid) biopolymer product series named Embio, aiming to provide a sustainable alternative to traditional plastics. The name "Embio" reflects the company's roots in the United Arab Emirates, symbolizing the biopolymers manufactured in the country, and also emphasizing its commitment to biotechnology and sustainability.
With the launch of Embio products, Emirates Biotech began conducting initial market promotion in the Middle East region, providing customers with local inventory of PLA, thereby achieving shorter delivery cycles and lower minimum order quantities. This move aims to assist regional processors, brand owners, and packaging manufacturers in accelerating the application development process and promoting the transition to plant-based materials.
Marc Verbruggen, the CEO of Emirates Biotech, stated: "The launch of Embio products marks an important step in our journey to promote renewable and biodegradable plastics in the Middle East. The Embio product portfolio includes various grades of polylactic acid (PLA), suitable for hard and soft packaging, coated paperboard, fibers, non-woven fabrics, and 3D printing applications.
Prashant Lohade, the sales development manager of Emirates Biotech, said: "We decided to maintain local inventory to better meet customer needs, provide more flexible solutions and achieve faster response times. With the launch of Embio products in the UAE, customers can purchase PLA in small quantities and enjoy a shorter delivery cycle. This is an important milestone for enterprises in the Middle East that wish to integrate sustainable materials into their existing production lines." The Embio PLA series products have high transparency, high strength, and easy processability, and have a carbon footprint much lower than traditional plastics. This material can be recycled or undergo industrial composting, and will not leave persistent microplastics in the environment, thus helping to reduce waste and achieve circular economy goals. The company's technical team will provide processing trials and application development support to customers. Technical solutions manager Watid Watanyupaisan pointed out that the Embio series products were designed to balance performance and practicality. "Our goal is to design a product with performance similar to traditional plastics, but that can run smoothly on existing equipment. This enables processors to easily and seamlessly transition to sustainable materials. The Embio series products demonstrate versatility, efficiency, and reliability in various processing technologies." Product manager Christophe Enkiri added: "Each Embio series product has been meticulously developed and tested under strict conditions to ensure compliance with food contact, biobased, and compostable standards. This proves that performance and sustainability can be achieved without sacrificing the functionality of the material."
